Climbing film and competition to ROCK campus

The sun baking the bare rock made it seem much hotter than the 65 degrees it actually was, but the clear sky was much preferred over the hazy rain the forecast had predicted. The first task of the day was complete: routes had been set. To an outsider, it might look a bit chaotic; a rainbow of ropes, criss crossing each other, knotted around trees and boulders alike. But each bowline was dressed, all the angles were equal, and the system was nothing if not redundant. Now the real challenge commenced; the climb. Standing at the bottom of the crag looking up, it was daunting. Of course it was going to be hard, but having already seen the view from the top when throwing the rope, the reward was well worth the work. But the thrill of being on the crag, dangling above the tree line by some thread around your hips, pulling yourself over each obstacle in your path, chalk between your fingers and sweat dripping down your face would make it all the more worth it. “Climbing…!”

Rock climbing. It’s the part of gym class that we all either loved or hated. For some, making that vertical trek across the wall three feet above the unforgiving blue mats was a source of absolute terror. And others thrived on it. But this isn’t your measly middle school bouldering wall anymore; this is the real deal. Here at Bucknell, we have our own bouldering wall, which hosts several events each semester, the biggest of which is a bouldering competition coined the Bison Boulder Dash. The competition is held in conjunction with the OEL-sponsored showing of Reel Rock 12, a combination of four short films revolving around awe-inspiring true stories of climbers from around the globe. Details on both events are as follows:
