How’s it hangin’, fabulous followers of Bucknell Outdoor Ed?! Over the past 4 weeks, Bucknell has spent countless hours outside competing in the Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge, a national competition among universities of higher education that encourages all students, faculty, staff, and alumni to get outside! (Wanna know more? Click here!) Overall, Bucknell was extremely successful in the competition, coming in 5th out of 38 schools in our division. Congratulations to our top three 1. Brenna P. with a whopping 1,392 points, 2. Rachel J. also with an outstanding 1,392 points, and 3. Pauline C. with 1,109 points. Although all three winners are current Bucknell students, we had a huge amount of participation from alumni, faculty, staff, and even student’s parents (Thanks Jon Weilbaker and Pat Tuz!!)
While students were all in for getting out there on their own, OEL sponsored several campus-wide events that were a huge hit! Our Kickoff Cookout took over the science and engineering quad with lawn games, slacklining, hammocking, and a delicious buffet of breakfast for dinner. Everyone enjoyed the chimneas and mood lighting and had a great time unwinding after a long Monday of classes.
Fast forward 2 weeks to hammocking happy hour, a smash hit complete with a smoothie bar (tended for an hour by yours truly, and some other awesome smoothie gurus;). Other great adventures were sunset yoga (shout out to yogi Kat Pardoe for leading an awesome session) and a rad night paddling trip led by Kathleen and Jamie!
For our first time competing, we Bucknellians really held our own against some pretty outdoors-y schools, and definitely showed our wild side. If you’re like us and reading this post has you itching to get back outside, fear not! Even without the competition, Bucknellians can get outside in so many ways- just stop by the Rental Center or Bike Shop to grab some gear, get some tips, and get out there! Also, be on the lookout for outing club trips, announced through the INnetwork! Until next time, ferocious followers of all things OEL!
