Senior Spotlight

It’s about that time of year again, the time when we must send our beloved seniors out into the wild to fend for themselves. Except, we kind of already do that on the weekends here with OEL… for fun…? Perhaps a better choice of words- graduation is around the corner, and our seniors are as excited as ever to celebrate the past four years of hard work before diving into the great world of “adulting”. Before they go, we want to take the time to highlight their OEL accomplishments and thank them for all they’ve done for the program. Y’all […]

BuckWild Training- A Truly Wild Ride

In August of 2016, recently-high-school graduated me decided it would be fun to spend five days in the backcountry with nine people I had never met before. Those five days changed me, as cheesy as it sounds. Flash forward about a month, and see me opening an email with the subject line “BuckWild Leaders Wanted.” A series of doubts and a week later, I was sitting in a group interview, and then the final, individual interview for the position. After that, it was out of my hands. A few weeks later, I turned on my phone after frisbee practice to […]

Never a dull weekend with Bucknell OEL

Not that there’s ever a dull day at Bucknell in general, but with Outdoor Education and Leadership, things get even more spicy. This past weekend, OEL had four major events happening over just three days- it was a weekend jam-packed with fun and friends! The weekend kick-started on Friday night with the annual OEL talent show. A great showcase of the many talents we have in OEL; there was juggling, singing, paddling lessons, hula-hooping, jump roping, power posing, and even Rigel-versing (a talent much like chair-versing, but around our beloved Rigel instead of a chair, so clearly much more exciting). […]

Campfire Campaign

Hello Bucknell! We’re four weeks into the Spring semester and OEL has already had a whirlwind of events and activities to enhance the experience of Bucknell students. We’re able to reach a wide audience through the multifaceted nature of our programs, but we want to be a place where everyone feels welcome to come and enjoy nature! We want to showcase the Bucknell community and how we can thrive in the outdoors. You don’t need to be big […]

Reaching for New Heights

I’ve always wished I was a good climber. I’ve never been bad at it, but I most certainly have never been ‘good’. Climbing is a strange passion of mine, I hate going because I’m not good, but the draw to get better is undeniable. The climbing wall in the Klarc Athletic Center was closed during the first few months of school, but now that it has reopened I’ve been reaching for new goals. Overcoming a recent shoulder injury, climbing has allowed me to stay physically active without putting excessive wear on my healing shoulder. When the wall reopened after fall […]
